Kristin Isaacson (January 11, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American cellist and college professor at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.[1] She is also a member of the Abilene Philharmonic. She specializes in jazz and improvization.
She received her Bachelors Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Indiana in 1998 and a Masters in Cello Performance from Louisiana State University in 2000. She joined the faculty at Hardin Simmons University in 2006. She completed her Doctorate in Cello Performance in 2007 from Louisiana State University. Her doctoral thesis pursued the topic of translating the improvisation style of Charlie Parker to the Cello.[2]
She has performed extensively throughout New England, Louisiana, and Texas. In addition to the Abilene Philharmonic, she has performed with the Ohio Light Opera, The Craftsbury Chamber Players, the Vermont Symphony and the Lexington Philharmonic. She has held faculty positions at Eastern Kentucky University and Abilene Christian University. Dr. Isaacson also performed in Argentina in 2009. She performed in London in May 2011. She has also participated in several performances with pianist Leslie Spotz, including two performances in Texas in March 2011. She was married in 2010 and she and her husband Alan Seals have a daughter.
